Wednesday…middle of the week…halfway to the weekend. Tonight has two special things in store.
One: New Modern Family. I love this show! I didn’t originally watch the first season but kept hearing about how funny it was. We ordered it from Netflix about a month ago. It’s hilarious. My favorite character is definitely Phil Dunphy. He cracks me up! I know there are a lot of Cam fans out there. He’s funny too, just not my favorite like Phil.
Two: It’s Bunco! The first Wednesday of every month is Bunco. We have 12 girls in our group so we each host once a year. There’s always lots of chatting, some wine, prizes, and good food. The host makes dinner for the group that month. Maybe I’ll come home with a prize tonight.

Last night’s dinner: Tortilla Soup
Letting the chicken broth and two cans of Rotel simmer–
Toppings…cilantro, onion, jalapeno, avocado, lime–
All together…doesn’t it look pretty? And pretty tasty it was!
This morning was little odd for a Monday. The husband and I woke up before our alarm! Mine is set for 5:55, and I usually snooze once or twice. This morning we both woke up around 5:30, and we were ready for action. It’s nice to get up with a burst of energy. We split a grapefruit and I made a yogurt bowl.
- Fage yogurt
- wheat Chex (I always like some crunch in the mix)
- chia seeds
Then I got dressed and headed out the door promptly at 6:30.
Do you hit the snooze button or pop out of bed? For me it depends on the day. I got right up today, and it felt pretty good. Maybe because I was asleep by 9:30 last night.
Sometimes my favorite weekends are the ones when we are in town with few obligations. When this happens I always take advantage of Sundays to get stuff done. Usually I start by making a to-do list.
Yes, I am one of those people who adds things to their list just so I can cross it off. It makes me feel accomplished!
I also try to make a weekly menu and grocery list. I love this helpful notepad from Container Store. Usually Daniel and I plan the menu together. He loves being in the kitchen!
I always write down any other commitments we may have that would interfere with dinner. This week I have Bunco on Wednesday so the husband will be on his own that night.
I made my lists and menu last night so I could get the store first thing this morning. I like to go before it gets crowded. Before the store, I had peanut butter toast with banana and chia seeds.
We made a trip to Sam’s in addition to the grocery store. We needed to stock up on toilet paper and laundry detergent. They also have whole chickens, two for about $8. One is cooking in preparation for the tortilla soup tonight and chicken salad tomorrow night.
Do you make to-do lists often? I love them! It’s time to get a few more things crossed off.
This afternoon I picked up my friend, Katie, and we made the 45 minute drive out to the lake. The purpose of our trip was to see the lake house a family friend is letting us borrow for her bachelorette party at the end of the month. Katie was the maid of honor in my wedding, and I’ll be the matron of honor in her’s. (Katie is on the left)
The lake house was beautiful, and I’m looking forward to a weekend of fun for her.
Nothing was looking too good at home for lunch so I decided to go to Which Wich for a sandwich. Subway is typically my g0-to place for a sandwich, but I was in the mood for something different. Have you ever been to Which Wich? You order your sandwich by checking off the toppings on the bag. I think I put more toppings on my sandwiches than usual because it’s fun to fill out the bag!
I do make a good sandwich.
Later I had a Fiber One bar for snack. These are pretty tasty, especially for only 90 calories!
I didn’t get home from the lake until six. I plopped down on the couch to catch up on reading blogs and my DVR. I have
several way too many guilty pleasures when it comes to tv watching. Tonight included a Lifetime movie, Teen Mom 2, and Bethenny Ever After.

My morning started off with a cup of coffee and a smoothie.
- a handful of spinach
- 1/2 banana (the other half was eaten while I was making it)
- 1/2 cup of skim milk
- flax seeds
Magic Bullet in action. It doesn’t work as well as the regular blender, but it’s soooo much easier to clean up. I throw this baby in the dishwasher with everything else.
My big task for today was to organize our messy pantry.
what. a. mess.
I made a trip to Container Store and bought a few organizational items. Then I took everything out, threw some stuff away, wiped down the selves, and put all back in.
I love these wooden baskets. One is for baking items, one is for canned goods, and one is for oils and sauces. Wouldn’t some labels look really cute on them? Any ideas where I could get some?
